Known as one of the North East regions award winning rising star chefs, Richard Garcia is a self taught chef with no formal culinary education outside the military training he received.  Born in Guatemala, his professional journey began a age 13 and he has not worked outside the industry since. He studied his craft in restaurants located in Boston and South Beach, Miami FL before he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps as a food service specialist where his skill and talent were apparent, he graduated top of his class at both the U.S. Army Quartermaster School and the US Marine Corps Food Service Academy.

After his enlistment, he would continue study in the some of the regions finest restaurants rising through the ranks until he was promoted to Executive Chef of Culinary Operations for Genesis Creative Properties, a multi unit/multi concept restaurant group where at 25 years old he was responsible for the culinary development of 4 restaurants all with their each unique concept ranging from upscale casual to fine dining and the development and market delivery of a multimillion dollar USDA approved commissary operation.

In 2006 Richard was offered a position as the Executive Chef of the U.S. Virgin islands hottest restaurant group, He was responsible for 2 of the islands top restaurants. Havana Blue & Lotus Asian Grill were transformed into the islands top dining destination offering Richards renditions of sophisticated American cuisine  with Latin & Asian undertones using modern techniques, flavors and presentations . His cuisine was quickly noticed by the Pulitzer Prize winning V.I. Daily News. The publication rated him as having the most creative cuisine in the Virgin Islands
As the Executive Chef of Tastings Wine Bar & Bistro, he continues to showcases his sophisticated American cuisine which he tags as “haute farm cuisine”; he is committed to using only the finest sustainable agriculture and ingredients as well as sourcing the best imported fair trade products in the world to create a dining experience to remember.

He has been the recipient of several awards and honors, including being asked to cook at the prestigious James Beard House on multiple occasions. He was awarded the 2009 Boston Rising Star Chef Award by starchefs.com who also awarded him the sustainability award for the Boston Rising Star Review. And his recipes have been featured in Gourmet Magazine and several cookbooks by well know NYC food photographer Allen Battman.

Richard is is actively blogging and posting his exciting and original cooking stories and culinary experiments on his blog www.chefsdailyfoodbank.com, which is quickly gaining a strong following.

Richard is an avid supporter of helping children fight hunger and poverty. He supports  and donates his time and talents to raise money for children in need through Share Our Strength and The Rodman Ride for Kids which is an umbrella matching gift charity raising funds for youth-focused social service agencies in Massachusetts.
